RANIA LACHHAB

I am a Postdoctoral Scholar at the University of California Berkeley, and an Affiliate with Lawrence Berkeley National Lab. I obtained my PhD in Agricultural, Food, and Resource Economics from Michigan State University in 2024.

My research interests include agricultural economics, environmental economics, and applied microeconometrics. In my job market paper, I study the economic value of groundwater storage using California’s Kern Water Bank as a case study. Other recent topics include the effectiveness of weather modification in increasing water supply in California, farmers’ production adaptation in response to changes in public irrigation infrastructure in Ethiopia, the effects of climate change on economic growth and groundwater resources in Morocco, and farmers’ adoption of nitrogen management practices in California.

I hold an MS in Agricultural Engineering/Agricultural Economics from Institut Agronomique et Veterinaire Hassan II – Morocco. With this background, I situate my work at the interface between economics, science, and policy. I engage with diverse stakeholders to ensure the relevance and applicability of my research findings and provide evidence-based recommendations to inform policy decisions on sustainable environmental management practices, and effective natural resource conservation strategies.

My teaching includes microeconomics, introductory macroeconomics, and agribusiness for undergraduates, along with intermediate microeconomics and mathematical modelling for Executive Masters in Public Leadership.
