RANIA LACHHAB
I am a Postdoctoral Researcher at the University of California Berkeley. I obtained my PhD in Agricultural, Food, and Resource Economics from Michigan State University in 2024.
My research interests include agricultural economics, water economics and policy, and applied microeconometrics. In my job market paper, I study the conditions under which cloud seeding could be an economically viable tool for managing water resources in a semi-arid climate. Other recent topics include farmers production adaptation in response to changes in public irrigation infrastructure in Ethiopia, the effects of climate change on economic growth and groundwater resources in Morocco, and farmers adoption of nitrogen management practices in California.
I hold an MS in Agricultural Engineering/Agricultural Economics from Institut Agronomique et Veterinaire Hassan II – Morocco. With this background, I situate my work at the interface between science, economics, and policy. I engage with diverse stakeholders to ensure the relevance and applicability of my research findings and provide evidence-based recommendations to inform policy decisions, sustainable environmental management practices, and effective natural resource conservation strategies.
My teaching includes microeconomics, introductory macroeconomics, and agribusiness for undergraduates, along with intermediate microeconomics and mathematical modelling for executive Masters in Public Leadership.
